The cost-cutting measures Pentagon has began come as the uncertainty over a threat of $45 billion spending reductions that will be done on March 1 is still rising. The Congress failed to provide an updated funding plan for the Defense system in the 2013 fiscal year and this just makes things even worse.
In an interview Carter explained that these measures do not stop here. According to the Deputy Defense Secretary hundreds of thousands of full time employees will be required to have one day a week free (without pay) for twenty-two weeks. Carter explained: “Obviously this is a terrible thing to have to do to our employees and to the mission,” Carter said. “But it’s necessary because it’ll save $5 billion and we have to find that money”. A spokesman from Pentagon later confirmed this information.
