A car with people inside plunged into the waters near Fisher Island from a ferry

Two people are dead after their car fell off a ferry and plunged into the waters. The incident happened between Florida's Miami Beach and Fisher Island.

The victims were two women inside a blue 2019 Mercedes Benz. Divers from the Miami Dade Fire Rescue as well as the Miami-Dade Police Department launched a search and located the sunken vehicle. The identities of the victims have not yet been released. It's unknown how the car went into the water. The Fisher Island Ferry is used to transport residents of the private island community and their guests to and from the mainland. Police and the Coast Guard are investigating the incident, and a medical examiner will determine the causes of death.

The Fisher Island

Fisher Island, is a "private luxury community ... consistently ranked as one of the wealthiest zip codes in the U.S.” says a dedicated website. "To board the ferry, hotel guests require pre-arranged security clearance, guaranteeing security and exclusivity," the same site says. "The entire Fisher Island community mourns their loss and our hearts and prayers go out to their families and loved ones at this very difficult time," a statement of Roberto Sosa, the president and CEO of the Fisher Island Community Association said.
