The second whale was not dead but it was later euthanized.
The foundation of Marine Preservation and Research is currently investigating to see why the first whale died and why the two whales washed up on separate NY beaches. The cause of death of the first whale is still unknown and experts say that they couldn’t find visible signs that would lead them to believe the whale suffered from something that could have caused its death.
The second whale was a small pygmy sperm whale. Because the whale suffered from severe skin lesions it was euthanized as it chances of surviving were slim to none. The Riverhead Foundation that is handling the investigations is currently doing the necropsies to find out more about these two cases.
