Father and daughter killed in a hunting accident in South Carolina

SCDNR is investigating a hunting incident that resulted in two fatalities in Colleton County.

Kim Drawdy, 30, and daughter Lauren, a South Carolina man and his 9-year-old daughter, were mistaken for deer during a New Year's Day hunting trip and accidentally shot to death by another hunter. They died at the scene. The accident happened on Barracada Road near Walterboro, a rural area of forest and farmland about 45 miles west of Charleston, state officials said. First responders found the father and daughter “about a half mile into the woods. New Year’s Day was the last day of deer season in South Carolina. Four people were deer hunting at the time. Several law enforcement and emergency units in the area after accident. Investigators are treating the double-tragedy as an accident.

Autopsies to establish the cause of Kim and Lauren’s death are scheduled for Sunday. The Department of Natural Resources is investigating.South Carolina has a few hunting accidents each year but fatalities are rare. Kim Drawdry regularly posted photos of him enjoying hunting trips with Lauren on his Facebook page.
