A 10-year-old unidentified girl died after she went into cardiac arrest on a plane out of Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday evening.
The plane which was on its way to Seattle returned to LAX due to the medical issue on board. It was met by a team of paramedics. The teams attempted to save the girl. “Sadly, all efforts were futile and the child was beyond medical help,” the Los Angeles Fire Department said. The child died at the scene. The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the death. An autopsy will be performed in the next day or so, when other information will be available. The LAFD said the LA coroner would determine cause of death. No one is in custody in relation to the girl's death.
Cardiac arrest is different from a heart attack. A heart attack is caused by a lack of blood to the heart, whereas cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops beating all together. It’s not yet known if the young girl previously had any cardiac ilness. The other passengers were put on alternate planes to continue toward their final destination.
