A small plane made emergency landing on Interstate 5 in California

A Cessna single-engine plane made an emergency landing on the center divider and far left lane of southbound Interstate 5 in Carlsbad, California Thursday night.

The plane landed without major damage. There were two people on board, a man and a woman. They walked away without any injuries. They told firefighters that the Cessna’s cockpit filled with smoke and it lost power.  Their identities have not yet been released. No one in the aircraft or on the ground were injured. „It takes a lot of courage to land a plane on the freeway," said Carlsbad Division Fire Chief Mike Lopez. The plane was traveling from El Monte, in Los Angeles, to Palomar Airport in Carlsbad. The fuel was removed from the plane before it was moved onto a truck with a crane.

Such events occurred in the past. A small plane made an emergency landing on the 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa in January 2018. The pilot was 25-year-old. He was on the plane with a friend. The plane didn't hit any cars or cause any collisions on the roadway. The same year but in October a 35-year-old student pilot was at the controls of a small plane when the engine lost power. The instructor pilot was 25-year-old. They landed on a highway.
