Southern Weekend is a liberal newspaper that struggled over the recent years with pressure and overbearing censorship from officials.

Most of the protesters that decided to show their support for the striking journalists brought banners with all kind of messages such as “The Chinese people want freedom!” and “Get rid of censorship!”

According to all the people who came to protest Tuo Zhen is the biggest propaganda official from the Guangdong Province.

Reportedly he is the one to blame for a drastic change in an article that initially called for a greater respect of people’s constitutional rights. The article ended up being a big praise to the current communist political party and ever since angry journalists called for the removal of the propaganda official.
