One person was killed and five others wounded on Thursday night in a shooting on the streets of Washington, DC.
The gunfire erupted in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, about two miles (three km) from the White House, and happened outdoors in a courtyard of an apartment building. There had been a “massive” police response at the intersection of 14th Street and Columbia Road. Police have not a suspect, no one was arrested. They do not know the motive for the shooting, if any. Two people were considered critical and other injuries ranged from serious to minor, but all were expected to survive their injuries. One of the injured persons is female.
A light colored Nissan Sedan occupied by 2 males armed with AK style rifle, last seen in the rear of 1300 block of Columbia Rd NW DC is supposed to be involved in the incident. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and looking for camera footage. No more information was available at this time. There were 112 murders in the last year in Washington DC. In July, this year, 19 people were found shot in five days. Gun licences in the city are granted to residents and non-residents. It is illegal to possess magazines of more than 10 round capacity.
