A home’s multilevel deck collapsed Saturday evening at the Jersey Shore, in Wildwood, during the annual New Jersey Firemen’s Convention, an event weekend.
Multiple levels of decking ripped away from the building. The decks appeared to have been attached to a three-story building and topped by a fourth-floor overhang. It was a large emergency response to the scene on Baker Street. Dozens of witnesses sprung into action to help pull out anyone who was trapped under the debris . At least 22, including children, were injured. Some people were trapped. They were quickly removed and treated at Cape May Regional Health System. No deaths were reported. More information is expected to be released on Sunday.
The Annual Convention of the New Jersey State Firemen and Life Members at the Wildwoods Convention Center featured meetings, seminars and business sessions. New Jersey Firemen’s Convention includes the NJ Fire Expo in Wildwood. Families of fallen firefighters also participate. They are offered financial help by a dedicated foundation. Wildwood is a city in Cape May County, New Jersey. The city, and the surrounding communities that share the name, derives its name from the wild flowers found in the area.
