Four people, including a security guard, were shot by a female who was a passenger in a white SUV. At least two of the victims were women. All four victims suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds to their arms or legs. The shooting occurred after the two from the car got into an altercation with someone in the park. Officers responded to the area of 5th and San Julian St, near Skid Row around 12:15pm (2:15am AEST). Large sections of the streets were blocked off with police tape. Skid Row, an area occupying roughly 50 square blocks in downtown Los Angeles, has one of the highest concentrations of homeless people in the United States.
“This is unusual. You have the occasional shooting down here, but four is a lot,” Captain Scott Harrelson said. The motivation for the shooting is not known but there are speculations that the shooting may be gang-related. The US is still reeling from the twin mass shootings in El Paso, on the US-Mexico border in Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
