Gerry Dean Zaragoza, 26, killed his 50-year-old father and his 20-year-old brother and wounded his mother at their home in Canoga Park, fatally wounded a woman he knew, possibly a former girlfriend, at a gas station in North Hollywood and shot a man on a bus who died. Zaragoza had been seen driving a newer-model, dark blue SUV with paper license plates. The gunman was captured in Canoga Park at around 2:45 p.m. after 12-hour manhunt, authorities said. He was not shot. Police recovered a firearm during the arrest.
The shootings began at about 1:20 a.m. in Canoga Park when Zaragoza shot his parents and brother. An hour later, Zaragoza went to a gas station in North Hollywood, where he shot a woman and a man who were working there. Police also think Zaragoza is responsible for an attempted robbery near an ATM at a bank and for a fatal shooting on a bus. Police said they did not know what motivated Gerry Dean Zaragoza in the attacks. One man, Michael, said Zaragoza’s father worked for him for 12 years as a carpet cleaner and complained about his son’s violent behavior. „His son didn’t want to work, didn’t want to do anything,” he said.
