The shooting occurred at a plumbing company along Highway 321 in Cleveland, where deputies found a dead woman. Two others were shot. A deputy followed the suspect, and gunshots were exchanged. The suspect pulled into a veterinary clinic parking lot down the road. Liberty County sheriff’s deputy was also shot Wednesday while confronting the suspected gunman. The deputy, identified as Richard Whitten, was struck in the neck and was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Capt. Ken DeFoor with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Whitten is alert and responsive. He has served as a patrol deputy for the sheriff’s office for the last four years.
