A dozen people killed in a Southern California bar

At least 12 people were killed and  a dozen others injured late Wednesday in a shooting at 11.20pm local time at a packed Southern California bar known for its large dance floor and live music events.

On Wednesday, College Country Nights were celebrated. A gunman dressed in black burst in, tossed smoke grenades and fired off dozens of rounds. He used a semi-automatic weapon in the attack Sgt. Ron Helus was among the dozen killed, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. Hundreds were inside the bar at the time. The suspect was also found dead inside the bar. The motivation for his action was not known.

Officials told residents to stay away from the area near the Borderline Bar and Grill. The attacker was described as wearing a black trench coat and mask covering his face. „It was a huge panick, chaos, people jumping out of windows, people hopping over gates to get out” witnesses described the moment of attack. Bomb squad and FBI teams have been called to the area and Swat units were in place. Thousand Oaks, a wealthy city home to several colleges and universities, is ranked as one of America's safest cities by the FBI.
