They fell from Taft Point, a scenic destination in the California park. Park rangers were trying to recover the bodies. Taft Point is 3,000 feet (900 meters) above the famed Yosemite Valley floor. Taft Point is a part of a 2.2-mile hiking trail along the Glacier Point Road and allows to see the views of Yosemite Valley. Accidents are not uncommon for Yosemite visitors. More than 10 people have died at the park this year, some from natural causes and others from falls.
Proposal in the Yosemite Park
An investigation concluded that the deaths were accidental. A hiker died in May of this year after falling off the Half Dome cables in the park, marking the first Yosemite fatality since 2010. A month later, two climbers died after a fall from Yosemite’s Freeblast Route on El Capitan. Taft Point is also where world-famous wingsuit flier Dean Potter and his partner, Graham Hunt, died after leaping from the cliff in 2015. Despite video and photos of the jump, officials consider the specific reason why Potter and Hunt died a mystery. Officials have yet to identify the victims and have opened an investigation into the incident.
