“Bill Cosby took my beautiful, healthy young spirit and crushed it. He robbed me of my health and vitality, my open nature, and my trust in myself and others,” Andrea Constand said. Ms. Constand, and other women who accused Cosby were in the courthouse to witness the sentencing. Ms. Cosby’s wife, Camille, was not. Judge Steven T. O’Neill considered Cosby a sexually violent predator under Pennsylvania law. The determination of whether a defendant is a sexually violent predator can be a factor in sentencing and in the conditions imposed both in prison and afterward. He will need to register with state police and notify any community he lives in of his sex offender status, as well as undergo mandatory counselling for life.

The actor declined to make a statement when a judge gave him the opportunity. The judge denied Cosby’s  request that he remain free on bail and also fined Mr. Cosby $25,000. “This is fair and just,” said Janice Dickinson, the former model who had testified at the trial that Mr. Cosby had assaulted her at Lake Tahoe hotel room in 1982. Bill Cosby began his career as a stand-up comic during the 1960s. More than 60 women recently accused him of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery, child sexual abuse and sexual misconduct.
