A shooting occurred Wednesday at a software company in Middleton

People were running away from the building. Officers arrived at the building within about 4 minutes of being dispatched. About 50 police cars plus the FBI responded to the scene in the 1800 block of Deming Way. The victims have been taken to area hospitals, police said. The  shooter was shot by police and has died. According to Middleton Police radio traffic, there were at least “two officers involved in this shooting.” Dozens of officers then converged on the area. The shopping center next to the building, Greenway Station, was locked down at the direction of police. Several hundred people were evacuated from hotels, offices and other buildings nearby.

Police conducted a secondary search of the area Wednesday afternoon to ensure there were no more victims or suspects, and discovered some people were still hiding in the building. The building was then cleared and declared safe; all lockdowns had been lifted. The motive for the shooting was not known. The building also houses Esker Software and other bussineses. WTS Paradigm was founded in 1999 and sells a variety of products including mobile technology to sell home improvement projects and engineering software. It has more than 140 employees. Middleton, a suburb of the state capital Madison, is a city of about 17,000 residents.
