Several people were trapped in the bus. Twelve of the injured were taken to University of New Mexico Hospital, where three were in critical condition, officials said. From broken bones and lacerations to head and internal injuries were constated. At least two of the injured were airlifted from the scene by medical helicopters. A passenger bus, a semitruck, a pickup truck and a car collided but the cause was not known. The bus driver took evasive action to avoid hitting the disabled car and its driver, who was ejected. But the bus driver lost control and the bus rolled onto its right side. It was then sideswiped by a semitruck,” Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Keith Elder said.
“This is definitely one of the worst accidents I’ve seen in my career. A lot of agencies involved, a lot of patents, a lot of critical patients,” Sandoval County Fire Chief James Maxon declared. It was not immediately known whether the three who died were bus passengers. It’s also unclear if the bus involved was a tour bus. The investigation is still going on.
