Gary Lindsey Jr., a man 35 old, shot an Orlando police officer late Sunday night after police responded to a domestic violence call and remained barricaded in an apartment with four children Monday afternoon.
The four children where 1, 6, 10 and 11 years old. Two children were believed to be Lindsey's and two are his girlfriend's. The incident began after a woman called police saying her boyfriend had beat her. Lindsey has been arrested for arson and domestic violence battery before. Officers evacuated other residents of the complex in the middle of the night. They were later taken to a nearby hotel. Two police squad cars blocked the entrance to the street. Criminal records show Lindsey has been arrested four times for violating his probation. He was currently on probation.

"We've talked to him several times throughout the night and the morning," Orlando Police Chief John Mina said. Officer Kevin Valencia, who has been with the Orlando Police Department since 2016, was in critical condition after surgery but is expected to survive. The four children held hostage were found dead Monday night. Lindsey was also found dead. He was killed by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. "We have no idea when those poor children lost their lives, that will all be part of the investigation," Mina said.
