Two dead and many injured after a school bus collided with a truck in New Jersey


The school bus was left on the median of Interstate 80 in Mount Olive. Some children were still inside the bus when first responders arrived. The bus was carrying 38 students and seven adults from East Brook Middle School in Paramus. It was  a fifth-grade class trip to Waterloo Village, a historic site in Stanhope. The news of the deadly bus crash caused a chaotic scene inside the school. It crashed around 10:20 a.m. on Route 80 near exit 25 in Mount Olive Township.

A dump truck traveling in the same direction slammed into the bus as it suddenly appeared in front of him. Dozens of emergency and law enforcement vehicles were at the scene after accident. No additional details on the children or any injuries were available. Route 80 was closed westbound at exit 26 after accident. From 2014-2016 there were more than 5,000 crashes on Route 80 in Morris County, resulting in 10 deaths and nearly 1,400 injuries. School district Superintendent Michele Robinson says there will be no more trips this year. Gov. Phil Murphy visited the school. Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco praises the work and the effort of the emergency responders.
