One person was injured and another in custody. The person’s identity was not released and investigators have not given details about a suspected motive. The injured was a student and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police say the suspected shooter is also a student at the school. He ran and tried to hide after shooting. His age was not immediately available.

Residents were asked to avoid the area. Students were bused to the First Baptist Church of Ocala where parents can pick them up. There were no reported threats at other schools but all other schools in Marion County were put on a partial lockdown as a precaution. Local, state and federal officers have been sent to all Marion County schools to provide an increased security presence. The shooting happened just minutes before thousands of students across the country rally against school gun violence in an event called the National School Walkout. Forest High has an enrollment of more than 2,000 students, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Forest High School is 1 of 16 high schools in the Marion. It is ranked #2486 in the National Rankings and earned a silver medal.
