On Tuesday, the former president Donald Trump will be whisked downtown by police officers and Secret Service agents to surrender at the office of the Manhattan district attorney. He is the first ex-president to be indicted.The indictment is linked to a payment made during the 2016 election to buy the silence of a porn star, Stormy Daniels. It is the result of one of several investigations into Mr. Trump’s conduct, including classified documents found in his possession and his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will charge Trump on Tuesday with falsification of business records. Up to 34 felony counts are expected.
A source said Trump will not be put in handcuffs, placed in a jail cell or subjected to a mug shot. Experts say Trump will be „allowed to go and travel wherever he wants.”The charge of falsification of business records can be prosecuted in New York state as a misdemeanor. A conviction for the Class E felony of falsifying business records can result in a prison term of up to four years. Limited media access was allowed and no TV cameras. Mayor Eric Adams warned Mr. Trump’s supporters to keep the peace. The Police Department sent a stand-ready order to its 35,000 officers, in the case an intervention against supporters will be needed. Possible demonstrations are expected. Previously, a few days ago, Donald Trump said he expected to be arrested. It’s believed he will turn the arraignment into a political spectacle.
