One dead, 15 injured after a casino boat caught fire near Port Richey

Fifteen people were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries such as chest pain, smoke inhalation and other injuries. The Coast Guard was sifting through the charred remains of a casino shuttle boat Monday to determine the cause of a spectacular fire.

Authorities announced Monday that a woman 42-year-old had died. She arrived at the hospital after accident “becoming ill and died later that night.” “We are deeply saddened for the loss of our passenger, the 14 injured and anyone else who was affected by this tragedy,” said Beth Fifer, assistant chief executive for Tropical Breeze Casinos said in a statement. The Coast Guard said it would review the boat’s maintenance history. Port Richey Police Chief Gerard DeCanio told the AP that the shuttle boat, which ferries people back and forth to the Tropical Breeze Casino Cruise, began experiencing engine problems soon after it left the dock in Port Richey. The cause of the blaze is unknown.
