Shooting at a school campus in Oakland, California


A shooting occurred on Wednesday around 12:45 p.m. at King Estates in East Oakland, California school campus near Oakland Academy of Knowledge, in the 8200 block of Fontaine Street at Crest Avenue. The Oakland campus houses at least three schools. Six adult people were injured. Two of them suffered life-threatening injuries. They had “some affiliation with the school.” Police is searching for at least one shooter but not exact informations exist. Authorities do not yet know if the shooting was a random incident or a targeted one. It’s not know if the victims knew each other. Staff at each of the schools on the campus followed district protocol for active shooter scenarios. Television footage showed dozens of police cars and yellow tape on the street outside the school and students leaving nearby campuses.


he office of California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Twitter described the shooting “a horrifying act of violence that has grown too familiar.”In the past 60 days three shootings occurred at Oakland schools. “Today’s gun violence at Sojourner Truth school shocks the soul—our schools are sanctuaries for our children,” Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said. “We must all come together as a city, schools, government, families, and city residents, faith community, nonprofit agencies, and leaders to collectively work on creating a safe and healthy Oakland,” Sondra Aguilera, OUSD’s interim superintendent declared.
