A man in Pennsylvania was arrested – but not immediately – after he drove his car, a Honda Accord, into a crowd of people gathered in Columbia County’s Berwick Borough for an all-day community fundraiser event after a deadly fire. One person, a 50-year-old woman, was killed and 17 other people were injured. Four were in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.Just minutes later, he killed a woman, supposed to be his mother, in a neighboring county. He was fighting with his mother about money. The victim was struck by a vehicle and assaulted four or five times with a hammer. Many of the injured were transported to local hospitals. “This is a complete tragedy in a community where there has already been tragedy,” said State Trooper Anthony Petroski.
Adrian Oswaldo Sura Reyes, 24, is facing two counts of criminal homicide. The suspect is being held in the Columbia County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 29. Sura Reyes was recently on probation for another attack involving his mother. Reyes told detectives he had fought with his mom earlier Saturday evening and felt “extremely frustrated.” If convicted, the maximum penalty Reyes faces is death.
