According to the American Food and Drug Administration, 53 different products –coffee and nutritional drinks from 12 different brands made by Fresno, Calif.-based Lyons Magnus, a contract manufacturer leader in the food service industry that works with numerous food and beverage brand– are possble bacterial contaminated with Cronobacter sakazakii. Cronobacter is a bacteria that can be found in dry goods and sewer water.The common symptoms of infection include fever, vomiting and urinary tract troubles but also sepsis or meningitis, especially in vulnerable and immunocompromised populations. The incriminated products – including Aloha, Oatly, Stumptown, Glucerna, Premier Protein and others – are subject to a major voluntary recall.
None of the products in the Lyons recall are intended for infants.The recalled products “did not meet commercial sterility specifications,” the FDA notes.They were nationwide distributed. The products are packed in various formats under many different brand names. Oatly products that aren’t Barista Edition are not covered by this recall.
