A 20-year-old woman pushing a baby stroller on the Upper East Side on Lexington Avenue and East 95th Street in Manhattan was shot in the head and killed Wednesday night. The murder occurred at around 8.23pm. The killer was a man, wearing all black, hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants. He approached her from behind. The victim died at the Metropolitan Hospital. The baby was unharmed. He was identified as a 3-month-old. The shooter fled the scene on foot.
Officials are probing domestic violence as a potential motive, but have not yet confirmed such a connection. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact NYPD detectives at 1-800-577-TIPS. “We are going to find this person that is guilty of this horrific crime. We are going to find him and bring him to justice,” New York Mayor Eric Adams, a former police officer , spoke at the scene of the incident. “No one takes criminal justice seriously anymore,” he also said. No arrests have been made yet. Crime in New York has skyrocketed in recent months, rising 27.8 percent in May 2022 as compared to the same month last year. The city recorded 1,562 shootings in 2021, the highest number in 15 years. The Upper East Side is one of New York’s wealthiest and safest neighborhoods.
