Shooting at Water Street and Juneau Avenue in Milwaukee, near NBA game

17 people were shot in Milwaukee, Friday evening, outside Fiserv Forum, near the Bucks-Celtics basketball game, as the game was ending, police said Saturday. The victims, who ranged in ages from 15 to 47, are expected to survive. “There was a stampede, people running over the shrubs, hats shoes on the ground, drinks spilled everywhere,” a witness declared.

Ten people have been taken into custody and police is searching for more suspects. Nine firearms were recovered from that shooting. The names of the suspects, and a possible motive have not yet been released. During the same day, police responded to five separate shootings across the city, with three people dead and two injured. It’s not known if the incidents were connected or whether they were related to the game. Of Milwaukee’s 193 killings in 2021, 180 were by firearms. Anyone with information is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360 or Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS. The Bucks announced before the game that Deer District had reached the 11,000-person capacity set for the watch party before Game 6. No shootings occurred inside. They lost to the Celtics 108-95. The teams, tied 3-3 in the series, will play Game 7 on Sunday. A large police presence remained outside the arena hours after the Saturday game.
