A mass shooting occurred Sunday night at the Mandalay Bay hotel and resort on the Las Vegas Strip during a concert. Witnesses said country singer Jason Aldean was playing near the end of the concert when gunfire began. At least two people are dead and 24 others are hospitalized at the University Medical Center.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police asked everyone to avoid the area. Concertgoers at a Route 91 Harvest country music festival performance reported a burst of weapons fire inside the hotel as the concert was underway. The music stopped and people began running and screaming. Some up to 20 flights at McCarran International Airport have been diverted in the wake of the shootings.

Hotel guests across the strip were being ordered to shelter in place. Metro confirmed about midnight that one suspect is “down.” It is believed there possibly were two shooters with automatic weapons. The attack came during the last performances on the final night of the three-day country music festival, which has been held for the past four years on an 15-acre lot across Las Vegas Boulevard from Mandalay Bay. FBI SWAT as well as SWAT units from Henderson, North Las Vegas and Las Vegas were called to the scene. Police blocked roads. There is an active investigation. Cops were reportedly descending on several casinos and businesses along the strip during the search.
At least 50 were killed and more than 400 injured. This is the deadliest mass shooting in the US modern history. The suspect was identified as te 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, a resident of Mesquite. He killed himself. Two officers were injured. Other two officers attenting the concert were killed.
