A crowd stampede produced victims at the Houston music festival – Astroworld


The two days Houston music festival – Astroworld, an event organized by Live Nation Entertainment – which was scheduled to culminate on Saturday left 8 people dead and hundreds injured. A stampede of fans pushing toward the stage occurred Friday during rap star Travis Scott 75-minute performance.


Panic also rippled through the packed crowd at at NRG Park. An estimated 50,000 people were in attendance. People began to fall unconscious, some apparently suffering cardiac arrest or other medical issues. Many were taken by ambulance to hospitals.Medical teams were quickly overhelmed. The officials declared a “mass casualty incident.” The show was halted “in the interest of public safety.” A field hospital had been set up. About 300 people were examined at that site . It appeared about half the tens of thousands crowd were under age 21. Videos posted to social media showed a chaotic scene. „Ït felt like a riot,” a witness appreciated. “There were people throwing out stuff, objects flying everywhere,” he added. An investigation was underway that is likely to focus on security and safety protocols at the event. The cause of the surge was not immediately clear. A reunification center was set up for families who had not heard from loved ones at the festival, the Houston Fire Department announced. “We’re looking at everything” to determine the cause of fatal Astroworld incident, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner told media. He also pointed out that this is the first time this has happened in the 30 years that events have been held in City of Houston. Scott is one of music’s biggest young stars. He founded the in 2018. He said he is “absolutely devastated by what took place last night” in a statement posted to Twitter.
