Deadly shootings at Halloween parties in Texas

A mass shooting occurred during a Halloween party at the Octavia Event Center in Texarkana in eastern Texas, at Richmond Rd. and Texas Blvd. , on Texas’ border with Arkansas, about 180 miles east of Dallas, late Saturday just after midnight. At the time of the shooting, a few hundred people were inside the venue. Officers “encountered a large number of people running from the building and several inside suffering from gunshot wounds.” A 20-year-old man died and nine other people were wounded. They did not appear to be life-threatening – excepting one person – and were transported to hospitals, at Wadley Regional Medical Center and Christus St. Michael Hospital. Many of the victims drove themselves to the hospital.

The suspected shooter was “described as a black male, who left in an unknown vehicle following the shooting,” police said. „the preliminary investigation indicates that it may been the result of some type of disturbance among some the partygoers,” a police release said. The suspected shooter hasn’t been taken into custody. On the same night, an 18-year-old woman was killed and three other teenagers were injured at a Halloween party in north Houston, Texas. Police said they found a gun at the scene but believe more than one weapon was used.
