Four people were seriously wounded as gunfire erupted during a party at a Lakewood, N.J. sports complex, about 60 miles south of Newark, Saturday night: A victim was privately transported to Monmouth Medical Southern Campus Hospital.
The others was helped by the public emergency service. Two men, ages 24 and 53, had gunshot wounds to their legs and a 30-year-old woman who was shot in the abdomen. Another victim, a 28-year-old man, was found shot at the sports complex. Their injuries, even if serious, were not considered life-threatening. Cops arrested 25-year-old Jahquan Fenn, of Lakewood, as he tried leaving the crime scene in a car. He had a firearm. Police found two more guns during the investigation, one in a vehicle left at the hospital and another found on the ground between two parked cars at the sports complex.
Localization of the scene of the shooting
Two women ages 20 and 21 were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. It’s unclear whether any of the three arrestees will be charged in the shooting itself. The complex includes little league, football and soccer fields, and a picnic area. The motive for the shooting is not yet known. Neighbors said they saw several cars parked at the sports complex Saturday night. Officers at the park started questioning people, searching for potential witnesses. The sports complex remained closed Sunday morning with township officers guarding the entrance.
