The same suspect vehicle – a white SUV – is believed to be involved in at least eight total shooting incidents in an apparent drive-by shooting spree around 20 miles northwest of downtown Phoenix, Arizona, over the course of a 90-minute period ,Thursday morning. One person is dead and a dozen people injured, some of them hurt by shrapnel and debris. The deceased victim was found with a gunshot wound in a car on the Loop 101 freeway at Thunderbird Road. The other injuries are expected to be non-life-threatening. The shooting scenes are in Glendale, Peoria, and Surprise, three cities just northwest of Phoenix in a region known as the West Valley. The Surprise Police Department tracked down the suspect’s car after it was spotted by the Surprise Fire Department.
Police took the adult male suspect into custody without incident. A weapon was recovered in the suspect’s car. No additional details were available on the type of gun and no further details on the suspect were shared. “We don’t know the nexus, we don’t know what the motive was, we don’t have an idea of what this person was thinking when he went out and did this,” Brandon Sheffert, Peoria Sergeant said. Police do not believe there are any additional suspects in the shootings and are asking anyone with information to call 623-773-8311. The FBI is assisting in the investigation.
