Multiple fatalities in a Cessna airplane crash in Tennessee


A Cessna Citation 501 airplane wich was heading from Smyrna Airport in Rutherford County, near Nashville to Palm Beach International Airport in Florida crashed Saturday morning into Percy Priest Lake in Tennessee. There are victims, one confirmed and many presumed dead. Rutherford County Fire Rescue is not yet supposed to find survivors. Authorities identified the seven victims late Saturday as William J. Lara, Gwen S. Lara, Jennifer J. Martin, David L. Martin, Jessica Walters, Jonathan Walters and Brandon Hannah and said all of them were from Brentwood, Tennessee. Former actor William Joe Lara and his wife, diet author Gwen Shamblin Lara, where members of The Remnant Fellowship Church in Brentwood.


Authorities initially conducted searches by boat and in shallow water, and later began dive operations, Ashley McDonald, spokesperson for the Rutherford County government, told media in a press briefing Saturday. Investigators with the NTSB and FAA have responded to the scene. Cessna crashes led to the more fatalities than any other make with 9,216 deaths, in a list of the top 25 aircraft accidents. Although out of production for more than 30 years, more than 12,000 Cessna 150s and 152s remain in service. Production of the Cessna Citation, a small business jet, ended in 1985.
