Gunfire broke out both inside and outside the Somers House tavern in southeast Wisconsin overnight, around 12:40 a.m. Sunday. Three people were killed and two others seriously wounded and taken to area hospitals. The suspect is at large and about 100 officers from multiple agencies are searching him. He is a male over 6-feet-tall and was seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, the sheriff’s office said. “We believe our suspect knew who he was targeting,” Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said. It’s supposed the suspect had been asked to leave the bar, but he returned after and opened fire. The bar was “very busy” at the time. At least one handgun was used.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the scene but police are waiting for “tips and other information” from people. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers called the incident a “senseless tragedy” and said he and his wife are “thinking of the families and loved ones affected and the entire Kenosha community as they grieve and grapple with yet another tragic incident of gun violence.” Nearly 40,000 people in the United States die each year from guns. The United States has suffered at least 47 mass shootings since March 16, when eight people were killed at three Atlanta-area spas. This situation is a priority of President Biden administration. A set of severe measures regarding firearms possession are expected to apply.
