The shootings occurred at two homes in Brookhaven, Miss., a small city about 55 miles south of Jackson, and one home in Bogue Chitto, an unincorporated place to the south of Brookhaven. There were three crime scenes. The suspect, identified as Willie Cory Godbolt, was arrested early Sunday in Lincoln County, in the southwestern part of the state. He was taken to a hospital in Jackson for a gunshot wound. Godbolt, 35, told that he did it because he loved his wife and children and he loves Bogue Chitto. “We was talking about me trying to take the children home … somebody called the officer … that’s what they do, they intervene. It cost him his life. I’m sorry.” This is the largest crime spree in Lincoln County history. Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant issued a statement on the “tragedy in Lincoln County” on Sunday.
