Miss District of Columbia Kara McCullough is the new Miss USA

Miss District of Columbia Kara McCullough competes won the Miss USA contest Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Mandalay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The top 10 candidates in the Miss USA pageant were: Miss Minnesota, New Jersey, Miss Missouri, Miss Tennessee, Miss California, Miss District of Columbia, Miss South Carolina, Miss New York, Miss Illinois and Miss Alaska.

First runner-up was Miss New Jersey. Second runner-up was Miss Minnesota. Born in Naples, Italy to a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, McCullough was raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia.She currently works with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission after earning her bachelor of science degree in chemistry with a concentration in radiochemistry from South Carolina State University. Between others, on the contest, each contestant is being asked what they think the role of feminism is in today's society and if they would describe themselves as a feminist. Kara McCullough will represent the country in the Miss Universe pageant. The winner of Miss USA will stay at a luxury apartment in New York City, which will serve as her home base during her reign. She will also receive a year-long salary, all paid living expenses; personal appearance wardrobe and styling by the official Miss Universe Organization fashion stylist.
