Authorities arrested nearly 160 people at a party violating coronavirus orders in Palmdale

Los Angeles County deputies arrested nearly 160 people – 120 adults and 38 juveniles – at a “massive underground party held in a vacant home in Palmdale, in a residential neighborhood without the owners’ knowledge.” The people inside were not wearing masks. They violated state coronavirus orders. “Even without the health order, these actions were criminal in nature,” Sherrif Villanueva said Tuesday during a news conference.Among those arrested, five people were also charged with burglary, one with possession of a firearm and one with obstruction. An underage girl, considered to be a sexually exploited child, was rescued. The organizers were 17 and 18 old. They also promoted previous parties in Pomona and Ontario, officials said. A rental truck with video equipment to record the party was found at the scene.

Los Angeles county has been among the hardest hit by Covid in California. The sheriff’s department is targeting these types of “super-spreader events” but at least half a dozen of these types of events occur on a “weekly basis.” The five-day average for daily new cases is 8,993, nearly double what was reported the day after Thanksgiving, health officials said. The California county is now under a state-issued stay-at-home order, gathering being prohibited.
