3 people, including child, were critically injured in a New York state school bus crash Wednesday morning. A yellow school bus transporting children to Little Britain Elementary School collided with a work truck on a two-lane New York state road. The crash occurred in New Windsor, Orange County, about 66 miles northeast of New York City. The truck crossed over the double yellow line and hit the eastbound school bus head. Police said a third vehicle was also involved in the crash. The front end of the school bus was badly damaged and its front windshield shattered. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Eight children were on the bus and a girl sitting behind the driver had to be extricated from the bus and was among those critically injured.
The bus driver and the driver of the tree trimming truck were also hospitalized in critical condition. Local emergency service and multiple agencies came quickly to the scene. The school district said that the seven other students on the bus were able to walk off on their own, and were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh for observation. Washingtonville Central School District said in a statement that it was “very grateful for the rapid and professional response from all emergency service providers.”
