She and others of the same age are at McLauchlin Elementary School in North Carolina. One day, one of her friends was pretending to be a queen and another was pretending to be a princess. In the story, the little Caitlin was their protector. She armed herself with a stick that hardly resembled to a gun ,but it was in their game. After, the little Caitlin was sent to the principal’s office and accused of a heinous offense. She was suspended for one day for “turning a stick into a gun and threatening to shoot and kill other students.” Her mother was told “Caitlin had a stick and she was using it to shoot and kill other students.” She did not understand why a stick was dangerous. She knows and argued that the girl just believed the stick is a part of game, in their story. “Any student engaging in such behavior will be removed from the classroom or school environment for as long as is necessary to provide a safe and order environment for learning,” the school communicated.
