Georgia middle school teacher arrested in a $6.2 million cocaine and heroin trafficking bust

The Spanish teacher Karla Alvarez, 28, at Chestatee Middle School Academy in Gainesville and two others, were arrested and are facing drug trafficking and gun charges. Georgia deputies raided teacher’s home in the 4000 block of Crawford Oaks Drive in Oakwood and found guns and $6 million in cocaine and heroin.

Alvarez was also coaching the girls soccer team. It was “one of the larger cocaine seizures I've ever seen”, County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Ware declared. The Hall County Multi Agency Narcotics Squad, assisted by several other agencies, confiscated 61 kilos of cocaine, a kilo of heroin, two semi-automatic rifles and cash in the home, which Alvarez shared with Monica Pascual Brito and her brother. They are each charged with trafficking cocaine, trafficking heroin, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of heroin with intent to distribute and two counts of possession of a firearm. Additional charges may be pending because anabolic steroids were also discovered. The search for Ricardo Brito continues. Officials confirmed that Alvarez has been a teacher at the school since August of 2015.  The Hall County School Disrict is conducting an investigation.
