The airline said in a statement that the flight crew made an emergency landing after a soft drink splashed on an unspecified electronic device in the main cabin. Passenger Preston Wake, 43, was directly affected in the incident. He said a flight attendant fumbled a soft drink and inadvertently drenched him. “I can’t really tell you how far it went, but I was soaked,” said Wake. “I had to change my clothes and everything.” The incident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration. “We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience, and are working to get them to Chicago as soon as possible,” Matt Miller, spokesman for American Airlines. He added a maintenance crew was inspecting the aircraft. The passengers were provided food at the gate while they waited for the new aircraft to arrive in Jacksonville. A different plane was sent from Miami to take the passengers to Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
