But a recent poll suggested that one in three California residents would support a possible secession from the U.S. When questioned, many of them say this is due to their opposition to President Donald Trump. If approved by voters, this could be a step to a future vote on whether the state would break away from the rest of the nation. 600,000 needed voter signatures to place the plan on the ballot were collected. However, this is not the first attempt to establish California as a nation, or break it into multiple states, there were many and all failed. If the actual proposal will be approved, a voye will be scheduled in 2019 to ask voters: “Should California become a free, sovereign and independent country?”
