Officers described the situation: “It’s one of those deals, you go there and think, ‘Hopefully, this is not true. Nobody’s going to have a small girl in a box, that’s just not going to happen.’ “Jeffrey Richwine, the sheriff of Pulaski County in the US state of Indiana, told to the media: “Never seen anything like this.” The plywood box was in the living room. Between the arrested persons the mother of the girl were too. Mr and Mrs Short claimed the girl went into the plywood box voluntarily. They face neglect charges. Six others were charged with failing to report child abuse. The girl is now in protective custody. Some other children found in the home have been taken into state care.
