Nine people wounded and an attacker killed at Ohio University campus


The attack happened outside of Watts Hall at W. 19th St. west of College Road. Nine people were rushed to hospitals, one of them in critical condition. Terrorism had not been ruled out. President Obama was informed. SWAT team, K9 and bomb squad units and scores of law enforcement officials descended on the campus. Classes were canceled for the rest of the day. Upper Arlington and Grandview schools had been locked down for a short time while police investigated the incident. High Street at Lane Avenue was closed to westbound traffic. Facebook activated its safety check, entitled “The Violent Incident in Columbus, Ohio.” Ohio State’s 1,764-acre campus  is located about 2.5 miles north of Columbus. The school, founded in 1870, is the third-largest campus in the U.S. with about 45,000 undergraduates and 13,000 post-graduates. The motive of the attack was not known.
