“We want people to be able to come into the store, relax, enjoy a book, find a book that’s either going to entertain them or inform them,” owner Vicki Burger said to the media. “Live like it’s 1993. Emails can wait,” a sign says in their window. The bookstore must be an oasis of peace and quiet, this is their vision sustaining the project. They ask customers to leave their cellphones and laptops in their bags as they enter “a place for books.” You may think this a suicidal strategy to do business…but if so you think wrong ! Their established customers fully support the ban. And many of the occasional visitors are attracted by curiosity. People’s life change a little, this is a beginning initiative, without phones ringing. What could be the next step ?
