Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said more than 160 fire and rescue workers responded to the 3-alarm fire in the 8600 block of Piney Branch Road.
Firefighters received reports of people trapped inside. Two firefighters have non-life threatening injuries. The fire involved at least two or three buildings. Garcia says not everyone is yet accounted for. About 20 to 25 occupants of the building are being evaluated by medics. Some of them were treated for smoke inhalation. An elderly man rescued from the apartment building remained hospitalized. Early Thursday morning the fire was believed to be under control. The fire has largely damaged Flower Branch Apartments. A building at least partially collapsed. The Red Cross is assisting the families that were displaced by the fire.
