Many American doughnut stores offer today free doughnuts on National Doughnut Day. It’s about jelly-filled, chocolate coated or just plain glazed and more. There are many varieties of donuts outside of that most commonly known, including twist donuts, fritters, and the hugely varied and popular filled donut. The iconic Los Angeles doughnut house offers free donut holes from 6am-12pm as an example. Dunkin’ Doughnuts is giving away a free doughnut with the purchase of any drink. Krispy Kreme and East Coast based Duck Doughnuts are handing out one free doughnut per customer, no drink purchase required. Now it’s even considered eating donuts in this day as a patriotic duty not at least because it also has a long legacy of charity and giving that continues to this day. It’s about tradition and history.
