According to the same rumors found on adult industry blogs the syphilis outbreak began because a major male porn star had unprotected sex with hundreds of women while having the disease.
In Los Angeles more than one thousand porn actors are being tested to see if they have the sexually transmitted bacterial infection. Some are even getting preventative antibiotics. Syphilis can be treated and is primarily transmitted by sexual activity: both from contact or from bodily fluids exchange.
Los Angeles’ Public Health Department confirmed the existence of a cluster of syphilis cases. The director of the STD department declared: “It is a concern. It is a serious health risk to workers in this industry.”
The outbreak could not have come at worse time. Because of the syphilis cases porn actors might be soon forced by law to wear condoms while on camera. The use of condoms became a political issue in Los Angeles in 2010 when an AIDS outbreak was reported.
