The “ suspect”, described as a fluffy baby bear, about two feet in height, scurried from the apartment and out of sight. After exiting the apartment the bear was captured to be relocated. It was, however (and fortunately) a baby bear. “No injuries (to humans or bear) were reported,” the fire protection district announced. Colorado’s collared bears are currently coming out of hibernation, and they sometimes seek food where unsuspecting people leave it. There are 17,000 to 20,000 black bears in the state. Eagle River Fire Protection officials used their Facebook post to encourage residents to keep windows closed and doors secured. Last year a hungry bear cub was found snoozing amongst the pizza boxes at Louie’s Pizza and was later returned to the wild.
