The school was placed on lockdown. It was not clear if it was a homicide-suicide or a double suicide. The police have no one in custody and investigators are not looking for a shooter as another person. Both girls were sophomores at Independence High School. “Our hearts go out to everyone at Independence High School this morning. We are standing by for information,” Mayor Jerry Weiers twitted. Buses transported parents from the staging area at 75th and Glendale avenues to pick up their children from the high school as soon as the lockdown is lifted. The school has about 2,000 students and was founded in 1977.
